CLIENT: The Legend of Alcazar

In mid-2018 RK Events wanted to start production on animated promotions for the Alcazar New Years Eve music festival. The final look and feel was inspired by pop-up-book style animations Tim had created with previous studios for the KKNK. He collaborated with designer Nicole Keyser to build a strong, punchy promotional style.
The promo needed to condense information of the event into three teasers, to be released as ticket sales opened. Venue, acts and facilities needed to be presented in a fast-paced but clear manner. Video one became an initial announcement promotion, video two revealed the line up and video three was a final push on ticket sales.
Recreating this pop-up-book styling required strong communication between the Cape Town based design team and ourselves in Johannesburg. Many technical aspects of storyboarded scenes needed to be experimented with on the fly, while other parts of the final animation were being produced. Results needed to be tweaked to agency’s and client’s input all the way through. As a result a strong aesthetic was developed and animation could be utilised economically to create a fun world to explore.
