CLIENT: Art My Jozi
OTHER CONTRIBUTORS: Photographs of the waterfall taken by Brett McDougall and Marian Laserson
As a further extension of the Louis Botha S-Bend mural project, Jess created this mix of digital painting and collage to help Art My Jozi develop a mural to draw attention to the Orange Grove waterfall. It has since been translated by muralists onto the wall along Louis Botha Avenue that wraps past the waterfall itself. It was especially fun to explore the unique textures of the Orange Grove quartzite that runs through the Linksfield Ridge.
Many people have never heard of this waterfall, but it played a surprisingly important role in the development of Orange Grove as a suburb - creating a space for early residents to gather and build. Luckily, the pavement alongside it has since been cleared of vegetation, and a clear fence has been installed so that we can all enjoy the view!
